Sudden Valley is the gated community tucked into the wooded slopes along the south end of Lake Whatcom. Most of the homes here went up in the 1970s and 1980s, built into the hillside with the dark wood, low light, and closed-in feel that was the style at the time. Drive through and you will see a lot of homes that are structurally solid but visually stuck four decades back.
The job we get asked about most in Sudden Valley is brightening and modernizing: pulling out the dark cabinets and dated finishes, opening sightlines where the hillside layout allows, and bringing in light surfaces that make these homes feel current. Because the houses are built into slopes, we plan around the existing foundation rather than fighting it. One more thing that matters here, Sudden Valley is on septic, not city sewer, so any plumbing change that affects the system gets planned carefully up front.
