09 · Questions

Frequently asked questions.

The questions we hear most from Bellingham homeowners, answered straight.

How much does a kitchen or bath remodel cost in Bellingham?
In Bellingham, a full kitchen remodel typically runs $32,000 to $90,000 or more, and a full bathroom remodel runs $18,000 to $45,000. A tub-to-shower conversion runs $9,000 to $22,000. Where you land depends on whether we move plumbing, custom vs. semi-custom cabinets, your tile and countertop choices, and what an old house hides behind the walls. We give you an honest range up front and a fixed written scope before any demo starts.
How long will I be without my kitchen or only bathroom?
A full kitchen remodel usually runs 5 to 9 weeks on site, and a full bathroom 3 to 5 weeks, depending on scope and how fast cabinets and tile come in. We sequence the work so you're not stranded: if it's your only bathroom, we keep it usable as long as we can and give you a realistic plan before we start. We'll walk you through the timeline at the consultation so there are no surprises.
Are you licensed, and will you pull the permits?
Yes on both. Bellingham Kitchen & Bath Co. is operated by Apex Builderz LLC, a licensed, bonded, and insured Washington general contractor (WA Contractor Reg. # APEXBBL749B1, UBI 604-945-342). In the City of Bellingham, remodels that move plumbing, add or move electrical circuits, or change framing need permits and inspections. We pull them, deal with the inspector, and build to code so it passes the first time. You won't get stuck with the city.
Will change orders blow my budget once the walls are open?
That's the fear with old Bellingham homes, and it's fair. We handle it with a fixed written scope and an allowance system for things like tile and fixtures, so you control those choices. Before we start, we plan for the common surprises an older home hides: knob-and-tube or ungrounded wiring, galvanized supply lines, an undersized panel, or a soft subfloor from an old leak. When we do find something behind the wall, you see the cost and approve it before we move. No surprise add-ons.
Is this one crew, or will a bunch of random subs show up?
One accountable crew. You get the same project lead from the first walkthrough to the final inspection, and we use the same vetted plumber and electrician on every job. We don't hand your home off to a revolving door of subs you've never met. If you have a question mid-project, you know exactly who to call.
Why does waterproofing matter so much in a Bellingham bathroom?
Because the marine air off the bay and our long wet season mean moisture is always trying to get behind your tile, under your vanity, and into the subfloor. A bathroom that wasn't waterproofed right will grow mold here in a year, not five. We build wet areas to handle real Pacific Northwest moisture: a proper waterproofing membrane behind every tiled shower, the right exhaust fan sized for the room and vented all the way outside, not into the attic. It's the part you never see and can't skip.
How long do cabinets and countertops take to come in?
Semi-custom and custom cabinets typically run a 5 to 7 week lead time from the day we finalize the order, and stone countertops are templated after the cabinets are set and usually land 1 to 2 weeks after that. We plan the schedule around those lead times so demo doesn't start before your materials are on track. That's why we lock cabinet and counter selections early in the process.
How quickly will I hear back after requesting a quote?
Fast. Most folks hear from us within 15 minutes during business hours (seven days a week, 8am to 5pm). We don't make people wait around. If you've got a kitchen or bath project in mind, we want to talk about it and get a free in-home consultation on the calendar.
